Still in awe at last night’s drag show at the library. I want Countershade events to include some element of queer theatrics, and nothing seemed like a queerer sort of performance than drag. The librarians, Zach and Betsy, were so kind and helpful in setting everything up—and Luna DeLyte shined as the drag host. I was able to just stand in the back for most of the performances and watch. Afterward we had a great mini-panel where I sat down with the drag artists (D’Angelo Dandy, Corvyd, and Vanessa the Witch) and spoke with them on how drag and speculative fiction are actually similar in more ways we might think. Overall a magical evening at the library. My favorite part was putting a runway down the main “stage” area. It reminded me of a trash fashion show I’d seen at the same library, also with a runway, when I was in high school. Felt like a good way to honor the past.
